The services of private psychologists are not covered by our public health care system. Some clients will be paying for their sessions themselves; other clients may qualify for reimbursement through a health insurance plan or extended benefits. Typically the client’s insurance or extended benefits would pay a percentage of the cost or the cost up to a certain amount. As a registered psychologist, my services would usually be eligible for coverage, but it is the responsibility of the client to ensure this. Psychological services for which the client has not been reimbursed can be claimed on personal income tax as a medical expense in every Canadian jurisdiction except the Yukon. This is because the Yukon Government does not regulate psychologists.
My fees range from $180 to $220 per hour, depending on the nature of the service and the client’s financial circumstances. If you decide that you want to schedule a session with me, we would agree on its length and cost before meeting. Then, for all clients, fees are due at the time the service is provided and are payable by cash, cheque, or e-transfer. As a psychologist, I am not required to charge GST.
If you need to cancel a session, please do so with a minimum of 24 hours notice. Cancellations with less than 24 hours of notice or no-shows (missed appointments) will be billed for the full amount, payable at the beginning of the next session.
Preparation of letters and reports will also be billed for, based on my hourly rate.
